CPAP Mask Comfort – Create an ideal sleeping area

Change your bedroom in these subtle ways to make going to sleep easier for you.

How you use your bedroom can have a drastic effect on how well you sleep.  It should be a calm and relaxing place, a personal space all your own that allows you to just be you and relax.

However, when you have a roommate or live in an apartment or small home, you may use your bedroom for a place to eat, study and entertain as much as you use it for sleeping.

When the room where you sleep is also the room where you live, it can be difficult to switch off your mind and relax at bedtime.  Your mind should only associate your bedroom with sleeping.  Don’t climb into bed until you are tired and ready to go to sleep.

Here are some tips to make your room an ideal place for sleeping:

1.  Keep it dark. Our minds associate light with our active, daytime hours.  Try an eye mask or heavy curtains.

2.  Reclaim the bedroom. If you associate your bed and bedroom with daytime activities, make adjustments.  Don’t watch TV in your bedroom and move the desk for studying or paying bills elsewhere.  If you have a studio apartment, put up a curtain or screen to seperate the area you sleep in from the rest of your living space.

3.  Buy a good mattress. If your mattress is uncomfortable, you won’t sleep as well as you should.  Same for your pillow.  They should be replaced if the support has worn out in them.

4.  SHHHH! Noise can be as much of a distraction as light.  Heavy curtains will help traffic noises.  Don’t use things like radios or TV’s to drown out  noise.  A fan is a much better solution.  Earplugs are good, too.

5.  It’s hot in here! I wish I had a dollar for everytime I’ve said that to my husband.  A cool room can make all the difference in a restful night.
